UMARIX AI PHOTO EDITOR

πŸͺ„ AI Background Remover

Isolate the foreground subject and remove the background, producing a transparent PNG. The AI engine runs entirely in your browser: on first use it downloads once (about 40 MB), is cached afterwards, and your photo is never uploaded to any server. Processing is not instant β€” the first run takes longer while the engine downloads, and later runs take a few seconds to tens of seconds depending on your device.

Runs entirely in your browser. No upload, no account, no image stored anywhere. Unlimited uses, within the per-file limits below.

How to use it

  1. Upload an image (JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 20 MB and 100 megapixels) or try the clearly marked sample image.
  2. Press Remove background. A plain-English box explains the one-time AI engine download β€” press Start to continue or Cancel to stop. Nothing downloads before you press Start.
  3. Watch the download progress in percent and megabytes. You can cancel the download at any time.
  4. Compare the result with the original using the before/after slider, then download the transparent PNG. Use Start over for a new image.

Supported formats and limitations

  • Results are best on a clear subject against a contrasting background. Hair, fur, glass, smoke and other fine or semi-transparent edges may be imperfect β€” check the preview before downloading.
  • This tool uses the small AI model first, so it trades some edge quality for a smaller download. It may show small artifacts on complex edges, and small faint speckles can remain in plain backgrounds.
  • The result preview shows transparency on a checkerboard pattern, so you can see at a glance what was removed. That pattern is not part of the downloaded file, which has a genuinely transparent background.
  • Processing speed depends on your device: a few seconds on a modern computer, longer on an older phone. Processing is not instant and is never described as instant.
  • Animation is not preserved: only the first frame of an animated WebP is processed.
  • The output is always a transparent PNG, because JPEG and WebP photographs cannot carry the same transparency in this workflow.
  • Limits: 20 MB per file, 100 megapixels. Unlimited uses, one file at a time, within those per-file limits.

Frequently asked questions

Why does something need to download?

The AI engine is a file of about 40 MB that does the background removal on your device. It downloads once, is saved in your browser, and is reused afterwards, so later removals do not download it again.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. The engine runs in your browser and your photo never leaves your device. You can verify this by watching network activity: only the engine files are fetched, once.

Do I need an account or an email?

No. No signup and no email are needed for any tool on this site.

Why is my result imperfect around hair?

Fine hair and semi-transparent edges are the hardest case for every background remover, including paid ones. The small model used here is more likely to show artifacts there. Try a clearer, higher-contrast photo for a better result.

What is the size limit?

20 MB per file and 100 megapixels. There is no limit on the number of images you may process, one at a time, within those per-file limits.
